bird's eye view, cityscape, empire state building, top of the rock Perhaps this is what comes first to your mind when you think of NYC: a massive urban jungle. The treatment for this was very basic. First of all I made an HDR out of a single RAW file in Photomatix. No great deal - if you don't know how just google "HDR" and "tutorial" and you should find an abundance of links. Since HDR pictures always look flat you have to adjust contrast - my main tool for it is a black and white gradient layer which blending mode is changed to "overlay". Modify the opacity as you like it. Your picture's quality should have increased dramatically just by applying this step. Afterwards the main elements of the picture get special attention by making a mask and applying individual curves or levels to them. Last but not least is color treatment: I used a simple Hue/saturation layer and decreased the yellows and blues noticeably. That's it! All in all six adjustment layers - not that much considering the result.
